Application malfunction, virus or Trojan attacks, improper system shutdown due to power failure and missing identity are some of the commonplace causes of Entourage database corruption. A common error message that Entourage users bump across is:
“The Office database is damaged.
Entourage cannot access your data, to attempt to fix the problem, rebuild database.
The action could not be completed. An unknown error (4362) occurred.”
Entourage database corruption is a serious issue that if not handled prudently, can lead to severe loss of data. There is a way to resolve the aforementioned error message by following these steps:
1) Rebuilding Entourage Database
In order to rebuild Entourage Database quit all the applications that are ruuning. Press down the Options (alt) key on the keyboard and then launch Entourage. The 'Database Utility' window comes up. Select the database you want to rebuild, then click on 'Rebuild Database -> Continue'. Once you are done, click 'Quit'. If this doesn't help, move to second step.
2) Creating new Microsoft User Data Folder
Exit all Office applications and move the following Microsoft user data folder to a network location:
HD/Users/USER_NAME/Documents
Start Entourage. A new Microsoft user data folder and a new IDENTITY_NAME folder is automatically created here:
HD/Users/USER_NAME/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities
Exit Entourage. Rename the database file from the following folder:
HD/Users/USER_NAME/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/IDENTITY_NAME
Copy the moved database file to the new IDENTITY_NAME folder that was automatically created.
If the above resolve does not help, try to repair the permissions of Mac hard drive or create a new user account. If all of these methods prove futile, it becomes requisite to devoir a third party Entourage Repair software.
